Instructions:
- Remove the old weatherstrip: gently pry out retainers or adhesive, and pull the old seal away from the door channel.
- Inspect the door channel and mating surfaces for rust, paint buildup or old adhesive. Repair any damage before installing new seals.
- Clean the channel thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or a suitable solvent and a lint-free cloth. Allow to dry completely.
- Test-fit the new left and right seals in the channel to confirm orientation and fit. Trim any excess length if needed using scissors or a utility knife.
- Apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel or to the seal’s mounting flange per the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
- Starting at the top hinge area, press the seal into the channel and work your way around the door, ensuring the seal seats fully and aligns with door edges. Use a plastic trim tool or rubber mallet to seat the seal if necessary.
- Secure the seal in place with small strips of masking tape while the adhesive sets to maintain alignment.
- Wipe away any excess adhesive immediately with a solvent recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.
- Allow adhesive to cure as specified (typically 24 hours) before closing the door repeatedly or exposing to moisture.
- After curing, remove masking tape and test door operation and seal by closing the door and checking for even compression and absence of leaks.
