The Precision Tailgate Weatherstrip Seal GWL 1130 73 is a direct-fit replacement weatherstrip designed to restore the sealing surface around a pickup tailgate. It prevents water intrusion, dust, and road debris while reducing rattles and vibration for a quieter, more weatherproof cargo area. Constructed from a durable, weather-resistant rubber compound, this seal resists UV, ozone, and temperature extremes for long service life. It’s intended for restoration and maintenance applications where reliable sealing and an OEM-like fit are required, and it installs with basic hand tools for a fast, cost-effective repair.
Features:
- Durable rubber construction resists UV, ozone, and temperature extremes.
- Seals tailgate to prevent water leaks, dust entry, and reduce rattles.
- OEM-style profile for reliable fit and finish on compatible tailgates.
- Easy to install with basic tools—ideal for restoration or replacement.
- Compressible design restores proper closing action and reduces vibration.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-45 minutes
Instructions:
- Open the tailgate and inspect the existing seal; remove the old weatherstrip by gently prying or pulling it from the channel.
- Clean the mounting channel thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or mild cleaner and a microfiber cloth; remove old adhesive residue and let dry.
- Test-fit the new seal along the channel to confirm orientation and length; trim any excess with a utility knife so the seal ends meet cleanly.
- If adhesive is recommended for your application, apply a thin bead of weatherstrip adhesive in the channel or to the seal per the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
- Starting at one end, press the new weatherstrip firmly into the channel, working along the length and ensuring the seal seats evenly and fully into place; use masking tape to hold corners or ends if needed while adhesive sets.
- Trim and tuck the final end for a neat join; close and open the tailgate several times to check for proper clearance and sealing.
- Allow any adhesive to cure for the recommended time (typically 24 hours) before heavy use or exposure to rain.
