'56 Ford Mainline state police car-turned-Mounties mobile 'stood out in my mind'
By Claudio D'Andrea
The Mounties, they say, always get their man.
And maybe their car too.
At least that was the case for one retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. George Piccott bought an original Pennsylvania State Police patrol car, a 1956 Ford Mainline, in 1994 after he retired from the force and began work on its restoration. According to a story on the RCMP's website, he put 14 months of work and $15,000 into the car that was used as a highway patrol interceptor for the Mounties, an exact replica of the cars the force used in Alberta during their patrols in the 1950s.
"Since I was a young boy, I was fascinated with cars," Piccott told Patricia Vasylchuk in the Oct. 11, 2025 profile. "Restoring classic cars has been more than a hobby for me – it's been a lifelong passion. And, I'd had a lot of cars but the '56 Ford – that's the one that stood out in my mind."
