Doug's Headers 1 7/8" 4-tube full-length sidemount header for 1963–1982 Chevrolet Corvette small-block engines delivers improved exhaust flow, stronger mid- and top-end power, and a classic appearance. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for factory exhaust manifolds, this full-length header replaces restrictive stock manifolds to reduce backpressure and improve throttle response. Constructed with precision bends and a durable hi-temp black coating, the header resists heat and corrosion while providing a showroom-ready look under the car. Ideal for restoration projects and performance upgrades, this part balances daily drivability and race-capable performance without extensive modification.
Features:
- Fits 1963–1982 Chevrolet Corvette with small-block V8 engines (direct-fit sidemount application).
- 1 7/8" primary tube diameter with 4-tube full-length design for improved exhaust scavenging and power.
- Direct-fit sidemount configuration replaces factory manifolds using stock mounting points for straightforward installation.
- High-temperature black coating resists heat, corrosion, and improves under-hood appearance.
- Durable construction with precision bends for consistent fitment; great for restorations or performance upgrades.
- Helps reduce engine bay temperatures and vibration while improving throttle response and torque.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 2-3 hours
Instructions:
- Prepare vehicle: Park on a level surface, allow engine to cool, disconnect the negative battery cable, and raise the vehicle securely on jack stands or a lift.
- Remove obstruction: If necessary, remove air cleaner assembly, heat shields, or accessories that block access to the exhaust manifolds.
- Apply penetrating oil to manifold bolts and studs; allow time to soak to ease removal.
- Unbolt and remove the factory exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipe connections; support the exhaust if needed to prevent strain on remaining components.
- Clean the cylinder head flange surfaces thoroughly with a gasket scraper and solvent to remove old gasket material and debris.
- Test-fit the new header to ensure alignment with the head flange and sidemount exit; make any minor adjustments as needed.
- Install new gaskets (if supplied) or recommended gaskets onto the head flange, then position the header and hand-start all mounting bolts.
- Tighten header bolts in a crisscross pattern to the manufacturer-recommended torque specification. Apply anti-seize to bolts where appropriate.
- Reconnect exhaust pipes to the header collectors using supplied or compatible hardware; ensure proper alignment and clearance from chassis components.
- Reinstall any removed heat shields, accessories, or air cleaner components. Lower the vehicle, reconnect the battery, and start the engine.
- Inspect for exhaust leaks at the flange and collector connections with the engine running; retorque bolts after a short break-in run if required.
