If this were to rust or come undone, it is possible that your Camaro's hood could get loose and open while driving. This is a safety hazard, as well as chance of looking silly on the road. When the hood closes, the pilot bolt is caught by the hood opening mechanism and the hook on the mechanism catches the safety latch just in case the hood opening mechanism fails on your Camaro. This safety latch and mounting hardware set is triple chrome plated and includes the upper lock plate, pilot bolt, and pop-up spring retainer, with four chrome hex head bolts with washers. WARNING: There are two nuts which hold the pilot bolt to the lock plate. Please make sure there is one nut on one side of the lock plate and one nut on the other side. This jams the pilot bolt, keeps it from backing out and reinforces the plate. Failure to check this may result in part failure at highway speed which could cause the hood to fly up.
