Outer right-hand tie rod end designed for classic Checker, International, and Studebaker trucks and cars from 1956–1972. This precision-engineered steering component secures the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, maintaining alignment and ensuring predictable steering response. Built for durability and reliable performance, it restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear. A direct-fit replacement that simplifies restoration and routine maintenance on vintage vehicles.
Features:
- Fits 1956–1972 Checker, International, and Studebaker models (outer right-hand tie rod end).
- Durable forged steel ball stud and housing for long service life.
- Secures steering linkage to the knuckle to restore steering accuracy and alignment.
- Precision taper and threads for a direct-fit replacement — no modification required.
- Rubber dust boot protects internal joint from dirt and moisture to extend life.
- Helps reduce steering play and vibration, improving safety and tire wear.
- Easy to install for mechanics and experienced DIY restorers.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle with a floor jack and support with jack stands; remove the front wheel.
- Measure and record the length or count the turns of the old tie rod to preserve alignment, or measure distance from a fixed reference to the end of the tie rod.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod or adjuster sleeve so the outer tie rod can be unthreaded.
- Remove cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end stud.
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork; avoid striking the ball stud directly if possible.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod or adjuster sleeve, counting turns or matching the recorded measurement.
- Thread the new outer right-hand tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the recorded position, then fine-adjust to match alignment if necessary.
- Insert the new tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification, and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end to lock the adjustment (if used).
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque wheel lug nuts to specification, and road-test carefully.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear prevention.
