On the Road: Camaro Stories

David T's '70 Camaro was his first

By Claudio D'Andrea

David Tywoniuk has many beautiful F-body cars in his lot that one writer called "heaven" for Camaro and Firebird owners. One of them is the first Camaro he owned.

His 1970 Rally Sport four-speed classic Camaro was completely restored and modified using the rotisserie method. The comprehensive and painstaking process restores classic cars from the frame up.

His Camaro has all-new GM body panels, original floor and rails, fisher T-top, GTA seats and an original factory AM/FM radio. A 1966 427 engine beats under the hood and it has a 2.88 super T10 BorgWarner transmission, steel scatter-shield, centre force dual friction clutch and pressure plate, a Hurst competition shifter and 3.73 posi traction rear end. Tywoniuk also installed headers and a custom exhaust in the car.

He posted his car on the website for the Edmonton, Alberta business that he runs with his wife Gina, David T's Auto Center.

The business boasts the world's largest collection of F-body cars and parts, according to a recent profile on Tywoniuk on Driving.ca. F-body, or F-platform, was the rear-wheel drive pony auto platform that GM used from 1967 to 2002 on its Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird cars.

The couple have about 1,500 F-body cars covering the full range of models that were made during that time.

According to Driving.ca, Tywoniuk said in July he was looking to find someone to take over the business. But not just anyone.

“I own this property outright, and I could have an auction at any time and so-called ‘retire,’” Tywoniuk told writer Benjamin Hunting. “But what I need and want, and it’s very, very important to me, is to do it the way I worded it—to pass the torch. To have someone come in and see the value of the entire operation, and bring the skills that are required to take it to the next level.”
