Precision Glass Setting Tape - 1/64 thick (GST 002) is a very thin adhesive spacer designed for precise alignment and protection of automotive glass during installation and restoration. At just 1/64" thickness, it provides consistent gap control, cushions glass to reduce vibration and noise, and protects sealant and paint from direct glass contact. Durable, solvent-resistant adhesive bonds securely to metal and glass while remaining easy to trim and position for fast, reliable installations across a wide range of vehicle glass replacement and restoration projects.
Features:
- 1/64" thickness provides precise gap control for automotive glass alignment.
- Thin, closed-cell foam construction cushions glass to reduce vibration and contact damage.
- High-bond adhesive sticks to metal and glass yet allows accurate placement and trimming.
- Resistant to solvents, temperature variation, and aging for long-term durability.
- Easy-to-cut strips simplify custom fitting for windshields, vent glass, and side windows.
- Ideal for restoration and replacement projects to ensure consistent sealing and fitment.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 15-30 minutes per window (varies by vehicle and prep)
Instructions:
- Clean the bonding surfaces thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth; remove old adhesive, dirt, and wax.
- Dry the surfaces completely and inspect for rust or damage; treat or repair as needed before proceeding.
- Measure the glass edge and cut tape into appropriately sized strips to match the flange or contact area.
- Peel a small section of the tape liner (if present) and align the tape on the pinch weld or glass flange; press firmly to ensure full contact.
- Continue applying tape around the perimeter, overlapping ends slightly where necessary for continuous coverage.
- Test-fit the glass to verify spacing and alignment; adjust tape placement if required before full adhesion.
- Set the glass into position using suction cups or assistance, press the glass onto the tape to seat evenly, and secure any moldings or clips.
- Allow the adhesive to set per any primer/adhesive instructions before driving and before applying full sealant cure procedures; perform a final inspection for uniform gaps and secure fit.
