- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 1–3 hours (varies by vehicle and scope of replacement)
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface and open the doors, trunk and windows to access old seals.
- Carefully remove existing weatherstrips and retain any metal retainers or clips if reusable; use trim tools to avoid damaging paint.
- Clean the channel and mounting surfaces thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol or adhesive cleaner; remove all old adhesive, dirt and corrosion.
- Dry the area completely and test-fit new seal components to confirm orientation and length before applying adhesive.
- Apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the mounting surface (or to the seal per adhesive instructions).
- Press the new weatherstrip into place, starting at one end and working steadily to avoid gaps or twists; align molded corners and profiles accurately.
- Secure the seal in position with masking tape or spring clamps where needed and wipe away excess adhesive immediately.
- Allow adhesive to cure per manufacturer recommendations (typically several hours) before removing tape and closing doors or trunk.
- Inspect all seals after curing for uniform compression and reapply adhesive to any areas that show gaps or leaks.
